Bluebird BirdHouse with a Wren Guard. #104-3
To help
solve a problem suffered by some Bluebirds and the birders who watch, enjoy and try to aid in increasing their population,
we have developed this Bluebird bird house with a Wren guard. We learned about Wren guards from more experienced birders, understanding that they are hard to find commercially,
we came up with this one. Problem. A Bluebird
builds it's nest, starts laying it's eggs and then a Wren comes in, takes over the nest destroying the eggs. Possible Solution. The nest box is hung with the Wren
guard up. The house is monitored during the occupancy by Bluebirds, after the Bluebirds have laid their first egg or two,
the guard is then lowered, in doing so it blocks the
entrance hole from easily being seen by Wrens. (The Bluebird being committed to her eggs will go back, though it may take
a little time) Important! After
the eggs have hatched (7 days old) lift and secure the guard in the up position so it does not interfere with the raising
and fledglings leaving the nest. Youtube Video.
We made a video to show you our Bluebird bird house with wren guard.
